A lot of us, myself included, carry the wounds from our past - badges of honour? These are the wounds that begin in our childhood and as time passes, they often deepen. As we grow into adulthood, the wounds become our baggage and chains. We are often so bogged down with these wounds or tied to them so strongly and ultimately it becomes the way we live our life. We are wounded souls and we have lived this way for so long we simply don't realize just HOW wounded we are.
BUT, one day we realize just how UNHAPPY we are.
There are just as many ways of coping with these wounds as there are stories as to why we are wounded in the first place.
Some folks have addictions to help them 'escape' - and it's important to note that addictions include more than just drugs, alcohol or tobacco. Some folks help others and still others strive for power. Many folks fill their world with material goods to find that 'feel better' moment.
No matter which of the above includes you, these are the methods we, the wounded souls, use to cope with and bury the emotional pain.
This pain stems from our sense of LACK of the unconditional love that we missed receiving when we were children.
There is nothing that we can do to change the past. It is critical that you realize this and put your past to rest. It is past...
The focus for us now, is to focus on the NOW! By staying in your present, you will begin to shed the chains and drop the baggage... and slowly heal your wounds.
I challenge you to answer this question:
HOW MUCH SUFFERING ENDS THE SUFFERING?
I'm sure as you thought about it, you realized that no amount of suffering will end your suffering!
Believe me, I have spent many years in my life replaying all the stories of my childhood. There was no change in the story, no change in the outcome. And suddenly I realized that when I leave my past behind, and I step into my present - really BE in my here and now - there is an amazing transformation that occurs. I AM OK, right now!
Try it... leave your past behind and focus on your present moment, right now, where you are at this moment. Focus on what you are doing, who is around you, sounds and smells that are present. And, as you are in your present moment, check in with yourself - and realize that right now - you are ok!
And give yourself a big hug and tell yourself how much you love yourself. Love yourself, exactly as you are, right now!
YES, it does sound really simple - and it is. (the toughest part is choosing to step into your NOW and letting the past stay past).
This is a simple and powerful moment for you. And as you continue to remain in your present and let your past stay past, you will notice how much more fully you are living your moments, every moment.
And you will notice how much your love grows. Doesn't that feel much better?! I know, it does!
